LOWER KALEKÖY
DAM AND HEPP

Aşağı (Lower) Kaleköy Dam and HEPP Project is located 2 km downstream of the confluence of Yiğitler (Vahkin) Stream and Murat River. It is located 15 km northeast of Genç District in Bingöl Province. The construction of the facility built on the Murat River was completed in December 2019. With its installed capacity of 500.00 MWe, the facility started generating 1,219.20 GWh energy annually in the first quarter of 2020.

The composite body of the Aşağı (Lower) Kaleköy Dam is planned as an asphalt core embankment at the left bank and RCC at the right bank. With this design feature, the Lower Kalekoy Project is the first Asphalt Core Dam in Turkey, and it has 4,800,000 m³ fill volume and 1,900,000 m³ RCC volume. The width of the 945.00 m-long crest is 10.00 m and its height from the thalweg and the foundation are 95.00 m and 107.00 m respectively.

The powerhouse, which is designed independently from the dam body, is composed of 3 main and 1 small units (3 x 155.49 MWe + 33.53 MWe) located on the right bank.

The 4-radial-gated spillway structure was constructed on the right bank over the RCC dam body, and its discharge capacity is 9,247 m³/s.

Moreover, with its 500.00 MWe installed capacity, Aşağı (Lower) Kaleköy Dam and HEPP, which started operation in 2020, is the 6ᵗʰ Largest HEPP by Installed Capacity in Turkey developed by the private sector.

Lower Kaleköy
Auxiliary Resource SPP

The Aşağı (Lower) Kaleköy Auxiliary Resource Solar Power Plant (SPP) Project is established downstream of the Aşağı (Lower) Kaleköy Dam, on the right and left banks of the river restoration area on 1,100 decare land rehabilitated during HEPP construction, within the boundaries of the Aşağı (Lower) Kaleköy Dam and HEPP Project’s approved Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and the expropriation boundaries approved by EMRA.

The energy produced by the facility with a total installed capacity of 79.99 MWm (total of left- and right-bank sections), is transmitted by an overhead line to the Aşağı (Lower) Kaleköy Dam and HEPP Switchyard and from there to the interconnected system via the existing transformer in the powerhouse of the Aşağı (Lower) Kaleköy Dam and HEPP Project.

The Aşağı (Lower) Kaleköy Auxiliary Source SPP Facility was commissioned in the last quarter of 2020, and hence the Aşağı (Lower) Kaleköy Dam and HEPP became the First Hybrid Renewable Electricity Generation Plant in Turkey.

In addition to this title, with 200,000 solar panels and 79.99 MWm installed capacity, Aşağı (Lower) Kaleköy Auxiliary Resource SPP becomes Turkey’s Biggest Solar Power Plant except YEKA.
