Turkey Becoming Less Dependent on Foreign Resources in Energy Generation

The acceptance of Unit No. 3 at Upper Kaleköy Dam and HEPP Project was realized on 18 July 2018, which concluded the Provisional Acceptance process of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. Upper Kaleköy HEPP is now ready for energy generation at full capacity.

Beyhan 1 HEPP, which is already in operation, and Upper Kaleköy HEPP, the provisional acceptance of which has just been completed, will generate a combined total of 2,799.06 GWh energy annually. This volume corresponds to the annual energy demand of one million people.

Furthermore, these power plants that use a domestic and renewable resource will contribute to reducing Turkey’s dependency on foreign energy resources.

The partial acceptance of Unit No. 2 of 201.8 MWm/199.4 MWe capacity at Upper Kaleköy HEPP was realized on 6 June 2018.

Along with the previously commissioned units, the total installed capacity for which acceptance has been made has reached 432.6 MWm / 427.45 MWe. It is planned that the acceptance of Unit No. 3, which is the last unit to be commissioned, will soon be realized and Upper Kaleköy Dam and HEPP will begin energy generation at full capacity.

The second Partial Acceptance at the Upper Kaleköy Dam located on the Murat River was realized on 9 May 2018.

Representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, TEİAŞ South East Anatolia Load Dispatch Operation Directorate, TEİAŞ 13ᵗʰ Regional Directorate and the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration have attended the acceptance of Unit No. 1 with 201.8 MWm / 199.4 MWe installed capacity.

With the commissioning of Unit No. 1 after Unit No. 4, which was previously commissioned on 26 April 2018, the acceptance of a total installed capacity of 230.08 MWm / 228.05 MWe has been completed.

The partial provisional acceptance of Unit No. 4 having 29.00 MWm / 28.65 MWe installed capacity has been realized in the Upper Kaleköy Project, which is preparing to become the largest hydroelectric power plant by installed capacity operated by the private sector in Turkey.

The partial acceptance was carried out with the participation of a committee consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, TEİAŞ South East Anatolia Load Dispatch Operation Directorate and TEİAŞ 13ᵗʰ Regional Directorate. The acceptance report was signed on 26 April 2018.

The Provisional Acceptance of the Upper Kaleköy Dam and Hydroelectric Power Plant Project, which has 634.40 MWm / 626.85 MWe installed capacity and is located in Solhan District of Bingöl Province, has been made by State Hydraulic Works (DSİ).

The provisional acceptance took place on 12 April 2018 with the participation of representatives from the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works and DSİ 9ᵗʰ Regional Directorate.

Upper Kaleköy Dam and HEPP, the “Largest HEPP by Installed Capacity” developed by the private sector with 626.85 MWe installed capacity, are ready for impounding…! Railway relocation has been completed and plugging has been started in the existing railway tunnel. Hence it is planned that derivation tunnel plugging and impounding will be started on 08.03.2018.
